June 2012 – Revolutions and Revolutionaries
Wednesday, June 6th, 2012, 7:00 p.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, the Dionysium proudly presents
Revolutions and Revolutionaries!
-Michael Barnes, social columnist for the Austin American-Statesman, will tell us about three revolutions in newspaper
-Hank Cathey will regale us with insights into the cocktail revolution
- Connor Hopkins, of the Trouble Puppet Theater Company, will discuss Guy Fawkes
-Jason Liebrecht will recreate Robespierre’s speech justifying the great terror of the French Revolution.
-As our centerpiece, two giants of intellect, Mr. Jonathan Patschke and Dr. Johnathan Brown will face off to address the evening’s debate: “Resolved: That armed revolution is a just response to oppression.”
We’ll begin with a toast! We’ll end with a cartoon! Between the two we’ll have you shouting “Viva la Revolucion!” (please do not actually shout or attempt an insurrection at the Alamo Drafthouse).
